For over a century, the
name Lydick-Hooks has stood for quality, integrity and responsibility.
In 1991, we began our second century of service to the homeowners,
institutions and industries of Texas with an undiminished commitment to
excellence in every phase of roofing applications.
From its humble
beginnings in Fort Worth in 1891, the Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company has
grown into one of the nation's largest applicators of roofing products.
The firm has left its mark over a wide expanse of West Texas on
construction projects ranging from mammoth defense installations to
modest residences. Today, from its strategic locations, Lydick-Hooks
operates full service facilities in Abilene, Midland, Lubbock, Brownwood
and Wichita Falls.
It has been that way
since John E. Lydick quit his job with the Santa Fe Railroad, and
started his own business, coating metal roofs in Fort Worth, Texas. In
the 1900s, his son, Ned Lydick, began working for him, soon to be joined
by J.M. Hooks, who opened a branch in Abilene in 1920.
Joe W. Lydick, was the
third generation of the family to be active in the business. He began
working for his father, Ned Lydick, at the age of 14 as a built-up
roofer. He was the roofing superintendent on the roof installation at
the Convair plant (now General Dynamics) in Fort Worth in 1941. The
mile-long roof, with nearly 2 million square feet, remains today as one
of the largest roofs ever installed on a single building. Joe W. Lydick
passed away in 1997.
Ralph M. Hooks Sr. of
Abilene, son of J.M. Hooks was Vice Chairman of the Board and Mayor of
Abilene. Ralph was also responsible for instituting the health
insurance and profit sharing retirement program for the employees of
Lydick-Hooks Roofing. His son, Ralph (Randy) M. Hooks Jr., bought his
fathers stock and today is Vice-President of all the Lydick-Hooks
Companies. Randy is the President and General Manager of Lydick-Hooks
Roofing of Lubbock. Randy is also Chairman of the Board of Lydick-Hooks
Roofing, Inc. Randy represents the third generation of Hooks family
members active in the business.
Dean Austin went to work
for Lydick-Hooks of Abilene in 1939 and in 1959 he moved to Midland
opening Lydick-Hooks Roofing of Midland. He served as Vice-President
and General Manager until his death in 1976.
His son, Mike Austin,
succeeded his father as Vice-President and General Manager. Mike
started with Lydick-Hooks in his teens and became a salesman after
graduation from college. In 1985, after 23 years roofing experience,
Mike became President of Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company of Midland.
Cole Jones had been in
the construction business for over 20 years when he came to work for
Lydick-Hooks in 1988. Cole has become the Vice-President of
Lydick-Hooks Roofing of Midland.
Throughout its history,
one thing has never changed at Lydick-Hooks, and that is its emphasis
on responsibility. That has been the code under which the
company has operated since its inception. Responsibility is
traditional at Lydick-Hooks. All materials are tested before use.
The firm stands behind its work, behind any deficiencies in materials or
labor.
That is what made
Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company an industry leader and earned its place on
the select bidding lists of major contractors, corporations, and
institutions statewide. That same tradition will continue to be
the Lydick-Hooks hallmark in the next century of service.
